CURIOUSER & CURIOUSER: A Jewel Box Family Album

This exhibition invites viewers into a world where imagination and lineage intertwine. In these intimate, character-driven portraits, Colette White constructs an invented family tree — a cast of beings who feel both surreal and deeply human. Each figure suggests a life beyond the frame, hinting at secrets, histories, humor, and heartache through gesture, costume, and carefully considered detail.

The exhibition’s small-scale, jewel-box format encourages a handheld look, echoing the way one might examine a treasured photograph from a family album. Up-cycled materials and vintage frames give the work a sense of collected memory — as if these portraits have been discovered rather than created, their stories waiting patiently to be found.
